| Description | Accident of “MV Shinline 8” onroute from Busan, Korea to Singapore |
The Board of Directors ("Board") of Shin Yang Shipping Corporation Berhad (“SYSCORP”) would like to inform that one of the Group’s 15 international shipping vessels serving the North-East Asia route, "MV Shinline 8" encountered stormy weather yesterday (18 October 2012) at about 30 meters west of Jeju Island, Korea, while on the returning trip from Busan Korea to Singapore. Strong waves reported up to 4-meter height had resulted in water ingress into Cargo Hold No.2 of “MV Shinline 8” and the vessel was called to abandon on 1630 hrs due to continuously high waves. � All crews on board “MV Shinline 8”, including 13 Chinese and 6 Filipino nationals were rescued by 2 units of South Korea coastguard vessels. Nevertheless, the Board is sad to report that 5 crews including 2 Chinese and 3 Filipino nationals lost their lives when one of the South Korea coastguard vessels ferrying them to shore overturned. � Quoted Jeju coastguard chief Cho Joo-Eo as said “The conditions were extremely bad and the freighter could have gone underwater at any moment, we had no other choice but try to rescue as many sailors� as we could”. � The Board also wish to report that all crews and the Group's other 14 cargo vessels serving the North-East Asia route are safe and in operation. And the Board does not foresee any major disruption to the operations of the Group arising from the above. � The Group’s vessel is insured for the loss of the vessel and any consequential cargo losses and, accordingly, do not foresee any substantial adverse impact on the financial performance of the Group.
