Working experience and occupation: Encik Ahmad Rizal Samad has held several key positions in his 20-year career. After completing his education in 1990, he joined a Malaysian IT Company promoting Electronic Data Interchange ("EDI") and Global Information System ("GIS") for GE Information Services. He secured his first EDI Pilot Project for Royal Malaysian Customs and Port Klang Authorities, which started the catalyst for Quick Response concept in Malaysia. In 1994, he joined Mara Shipyard Engineering Sdn. Bhd. ("MSET") in Terengganu as Business Development Manager for the ship fabrication activities. During his tenure in MSET, he was instrumental in the formation of a partnership between MSET, DEFCOM Sdn. Bhd. and Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeug AG (Austria) to assemble Pandur 6X6 Armoured Vehicles. The project was terminated as the region went into economic downturn in 1997.
He received his first break in Oil & Gas when he was appointed as Senior Marketing Manager in Delcom Services Sdn. Bhd. Between 1998-2003, he secured several major contracts for offshore steel tubular and drilling rigs worth over USD50M. His clients included oil majors such as Petronas Carigali, Sarawak Shell, ExxonMobil and Nippon Oil. He participated in several industry activities including the Petronas sponsored Cost Reduction Alliance (CORAL) initiative as committee member. This was his opportunity to mingle with key management and decision makers of the regional oil companies.
Armed with these key contacts, he joined Ramunia Holdings Berhad in 2003 as General Manager for Business Development. While in Ramunia, he expanded his networking to include more international players such as ConocoPhillips, Pertamina, Unocal, Newfield, Murphy Oil and Oil & Gas Company (ONGC) of India. He led a team of Engineers, Proposal, Estimators and Project Management to secure several fabrication projects. The pinnacle of his career in Ramunia was when he led the Ramunia team to secure a USD685M EPC contract with ONGC; becoming the first Malaysian company to become the main contractor for ONGC. Eventually, he left Ramunia in September 2008 to start Mittro Energy Sdn. Bhd.
